I had a moment of sentimentality for the things they used to sell in the back of comic books when I was a kid. Take a winter day and sit me at the card table in my brother's room in the basement, canned tomato soup and a white plastic sleeve of crackers in front of me. The card table had a yellow vinyl top with shiny multi colored flecks in it, surrounded by a brassy metallic rim. We had the usual comics, superhoroes and heroines as well as historical and mythological, Vietnam, Thor...
I read the stories but the mail order pages took most of my attention, happy face patches, glittery unicorns and rainbows ripe for the acid trip in all of us. There was a doll house you could sit inside of. I always wondered did someone have to close it around you? and when they did, how did you get back out?
